ecco come vendono la loro merce:)
SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA--AMD (NYSE:AMD) today announced the
official confirmation and posting of performance benchmark scores
that demonstrate the AMD Opteron(TM) processor as the highest
performing 2P and 4P server processor in the world.

The 57 scores approved and posted by the Standard Performance
Evaluation Corp. (SPEC) validate the AMD Opteron processor-based
system's performance lead in several categories including:

-- Highest recorded 2P and 4P SPECweb(R) 99 scores, breaking for
the first time the 10,000 barrier on a 4P system

-- Highest recorded 2P and 4P SPECint(R)_rate2000 scores

-- Best scaling 1P to 2P to 4P SPECfp(R)_rate2000 scores

-- Highest recorded 4P SPECweb 99_SSL scores

-- Highest recorded 1P, 2P, and 4P SPECjbb(R) 2000 scores

"SPEC confirms what we've claimed all along," said Marty Seyer,
vice president and general manager of AMD's Microprocessor
Business Unit. "AMD Opteron is the highest performing processor
for 2P and 4P servers, providing our customers with breakout
performance in 64-bit computing while protecting their
investments in 32-bit applications and programs."

On the SPEC benchmark tests, which are considered among the most
important for servers, the AMD Opteron processor achieved scores
that were up to 144 percent greater(1) than competing 32-bit
server processors and 43 percent higher performing(2) than
servers based on competing 64-bit processors.

SPEC is a non-profit organization that oversees benchmarks that
measure the performance of high-performance computers. Additional
details about SPEC testing standards and requirements can be
found at www.spec.org. AMD Opteron benchmarks scores can be read

About the AMD Opteron(TM) Processor

The AMD Opteron processor is based on AMD's eighth-generation
processor core, and marks the introduction of the industry's
first 64-bit, x86 technology implementation. This technology is
designed to preserve companies' investments in 32-bit
applications, while allowing a seamless transition to 64-bit
computing, as those companies require. The AMD Opteron processor
is designed to deliver high-performance server and workstation
solutions for today's most demanding enterprise applications. The
processor is designed to be scalable, reliable and compatible,
which can result in lower total cost of ownership. Key AMD
Opteron processor innovations include an integrated memory
controller, which reduces memory bottlenecks, and
HyperTransport(TM) technology, which increases overall
performance by removing or reducing I/O bottlenecks, increasing
bandwidth and reducing latency.

oggi in decisa contro tendenza 7,40+2,49%:)

buongiorno a tutti :

secondo me ..o c' è qualcuno che "foraggia" nell' ombra...
o comunque c' è qualche sorpresa in vista....
Saluti :)

AMD CFO Says 4Q To Be Seasonally Strong
Thursday December 4, 11:54 am ET
By Donna Fuscaldo, Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE:AMD - News) Chief Financial Officer Robert Rivet said Thursday the chip maker as well as the industry will see a seasonally strong fourth quarter.

"Christmas will happen. Demand is definitely there," said Rivet during a presentation at the Credit Suisse First Boston conference, which was also broadcast over the Internet.

According to Rivet, AMD started to see a build up of demand in the third quarter, which has carrythrough into the December quarter. He said "feature rich" cell phones will be a hot item for Christmas, with more camera-equipped cell phones being sold than digital cameras this holiday season. AMD makes flash memory chips used in cell phones.

As for the microprocessor business, Rivet said that business will also enjoy a seasonally strong fourth quarter.

Recently, shares of AMD were trading down 1.3%, or 24 cents, to $17.06, on volume of 3.9 million shares. Average daily volume is 12.9 million shares.

Intel Narrows 4Q Revenue Estimates; Warns of $600 Million Charge After Wireless Business Misses Expectations

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Intel Corp. raised the low end of its fourth-quarter revenue forecast, citing strong holiday demand for computers, but warned of a $600 million charge after one of its wireless businesses failed to meet expectations.

The chip-making giant said Thursday it expects revenue to be between $8.5 billion and $8.7 billion. In October, the company predicted sales would be $8.1 billion to $8.7 billion. The company does not announce profit estimates.

"It's one of those quarters where you'd like to celebrate the business, and you're looking at the fact you have to write off," said Andy Bryant, Intel's chief financial officer. "It's very uncomfortable and very negative."

Analysts expect the semiconductor giant to post a profit of 29 cents per share on sales of sales of $8.53 billion for the three months ending Dec. 31, according to a survey by Thomson First Call. In the fourth quarter of last year, it posted sales of $7.16 billion.

"There were some expectations -- certainly on my part, and maybe by others -- that they might raise the upper end of the revenue range," said Rick Whittington, an analyst at American Technology Research. "They did not."

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company said its core microprocessor business is "experiencing solid seasonal growth." Meanwhile, its communications chip business is on track with expectations.

But it would take a goodwill impairment charge of about $600 million related to its Wireless Communications and Computing Group, which makes components and software for cellular-handset makers and handheld-computer makers.

"The long-term growth expectations for this business are no longer projected to be as high as previously expected," the company said.

Whittington said Intel's strategy of selling a common hardware to cell phone makers does not seem to be paying off. Cell phone manufacturers want to differentiate their offerings, he said.

"AMD has used that as a selling technique to try to pry away some of Intel's cell phone customers, and it seems to have had an effect," he said.

Intel's microprocessor sales are not only benefiting from the overall strength of the computer market but also a shift in the popularity of notebooks, which carry a higher profit margin for the computer makers and component providers like Intel.

Intel has been heavily marketing its Centrino mobile technology brand, which includes a processor as well as a chip set and radio for wireless communications.
