10:03 AM NYSE & NASDAQ New Highs - New Lows With Scorecard
We're looking at 30 stocks today that sport "extreme" ratings on our Schaeffer's Equity Scorecard. There has been a perceptible shift between the bulls and the bears this week. Just seven of today's "extreme" ratings are on the bull side today, while 23 come up on the bearish screen. Two of the potential bearish stock picks are Louisiana-Pacific (NYSE:LPX) and Symyx Technologies (NASDAQ:SMMX), both of which earn Scorecard ratings of 1.0, suggesting future downside over the near term.

You might say that Chiquita Brands International (NYSE:CQB) has lost some of its a-peel for investors today. This morning, the company said it is considering selling its shipping business as part of a strategy to reduce its debt. The company also warned that it would suspend its quarterly dividend payments. Officials also referenced the "challenging current market environment," including the widely publicized safety issues surrounding raw spinach, have impacted CQB's Fresh Express unit and hurt the firm's bottom line in the third quarter. The company also noted that it is struggling with reduced banana prices.
The stock has currently dropped more than 12 percent today on heavy volume, gapping below their 10-week and 20-week moving averages. Bearish investors, of which there are plenty, may be tempted to run with profits today. About 20 percent of the stock's available float is currently sold short, amounting to a short-interest ratio of 10.7 days to cover.
