SEATTLE, Mar 4, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Insightful Corporation (IFUL) , a leading provider of software solutions for analysis of numeric and text data, today announced its financial results for the fourth quarter and 2003.

Insightful achieved revenues of $4.6 million for its fourth quarter representing an increase of 8% over the fourth quarter of 2002. The Company achieved net income of $0.2 million as compared to a $1.1 million net loss in the prior year quarter. Excluding non-cash impairment charges, the Company would have reported net income of $0.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2003 compared to a net loss of $0.3 million in the prior year quarter.

"We are pleased with our fourth quarter growth and return to profitability," said Jeff Coombs, president and CEO of Insightful. "Sales of the S-PLUS product family at the high-end are particularly encouraging. Strong sales of servers, vertical application modules and Insightful Miner demonstrate that we are delivering on our mission to drive S-PLUS beyond its traditional use for analytic model prototyping and into production environments. We are also encouraged that international revenue grew despite the mid-year 2003 cost reductions in Europe

Here's what they said in the CC:

$200K earnings in Q4/2003 vs (1.1MM) loss in Q4/2002
$700K earnings in Q4/2003 before non-cash charge for impairment of goodwill
Forward guidance 5 to 10% revenue growth in 2004; profitable for year
Q1/2004 flat over Q1/2003 = $4.3MM; small Q1 loss expected

Management was WAY TOO CONSERVATIVE on the call, hence the A/H selling.
However, to show a 10% revenue growth for the year means Q2/Q3/Q4 needs to
grow more like 15% to 20%, So we sould see earnings of -1 cent, 5 cents, 6
cents and 8 cents spread over the quarters, $0.18 for the year. 40 P/E puts
it over $7.00.

OK!

SEATTLE, Mar 8, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Insightful Corporation(R) (IFUL) , a leading provider of software solutions for analysis of numeric and text data, announced today that InFact(R), a new software product for relationship search and text analysis, has been purchased by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).

"We are pleased that the DIA has purchased InFact. This software provides relationship search and text analysis that moves well beyond the key word search and entity extraction offered by other text analysis products," said Jeff Coombs, president and CEO of Insightful Corporation.

InFact extracts events and relationships from within documents, not just keywords or entities. InFact can ingest millions of documents, and on demand produce easy-to-read concept maps that quickly summarize intelligence from vast amounts of information across many documents for better, more effective decision-making. InFact provides a unique, efficient way to navigate, analyze and share information. InFact's API makes it easy to integrate its capabilities into existing knowledge portals or visualization solutions.

SEATTLE, Mar 16, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Insightful Corporation (IFUL) , a leading provider of software solutions for analysis of numeric and text data, today announced that its InFact(R) text analysis business unit has been competitively selected by the US Army Research Institute to develop new technology for unstructured data mining under the project "Leadership Agent for Multi-Source Information Fusion in Counter-Terrorism," sponsored by the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Intelligence analysts assigned to counter-terrorism activities need to track, link and extract abnormal relationship patterns from gigabytes of data originating from multiple heterogeneous sources. Relationship search is required and challenging because conventional search engine products do not understand the complexity of relationships in natural language text and human efforts are unable to correlate relationships across millions of documents quickly. InFact fills an important need in unstructured data mining, moving beyond products for keyword search and entity recognition and human capabilities to provide comprehensive relationship search.

"We are delighted that we have received this contract as a result of our researchers' in-depth knowledge of text analysis and the caliber of our research team," said Giovanni Marchisio, director of research and development for emerging products, at Insightful. "The Department of Defense has identified mission-critical software solutions in areas where Insightful has a leading edge, like Latent Semantic Analysis and relationship extraction. This contract supports our efforts to enhance InFact, a market-leading relationship search product, and make it available for both commercial and defense applications."
