NUVIO CHOOSES INTERNAP TO POWER VOICE OVER IP SERVICE OFFERINGS; HIGH-PERFORMANCE IP SERVICES CHALLENGE MORE COSTLY, TRADITIONAL VOICE SERVICE
Internap(R) Network Services Corporation (AMEX: IIP), the leading provider of performance-based routing technology over the Internet, announced today that Kansas City, MO-based Nuvio Corporation has become the latest provider of Voice over IP (VoIP) services to select Internap's multi-carrier network service to power its VoIP service offerings.
"Voice over IP is rapidly gaining widespread acceptance among business customers and carriers as an acceptable alternative to traditional circuit-switched voice service," said Dave Abrahamson, vice president of sales and chief marketing officer at Internap. "We're excited that Nuvio and other VoIP providers recognize the unique benefits of Internap's multi-homed, managed network service and have chosen our technology for their service."
"As a leading VoIP provider, we needed to partner with a company that was able to support our datacenters," said Jason Talley, chief executive officer of Nuvio. "Network latency and quality are critical to success for our service. Internap was able to address all of these issues and more, and we are very excited about our relationship with them."
In tests conducted by NEC Business Solutions, Inc. of Internap's performance for voice and video applications over the public Internet, Internap far exceeded the performance levels of delay, packet loss and jitter recommended by the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector. For overall call quality, Internap registered a 4.10 mean opinion score (MOS), placing it significantly above the acceptable MOS score range of 3.60 or higher. By comparison, a 3.60 MOS score is the quality associated with cellular phone calls.
Gartner, Inc. predicts that at least 80 percent of enterprises worldwide will install VoIP over the next five years. However, the use of a private network approach to VoIP can suffer from both poor performance and cost effectiveness, compared to the public Internet. Internap's managed IP network services provide an end-to-end service level agreement that covers the entire Internet, enabling voice performance at significant costs savings.
Nuvio is currently offering residential and business VoIP service in Kansas City, Springfield, and Joplin, MO, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and Colorado Springs. Nuvio is bringing new cities online every day. "Our partnership with Internap allows us to bring the highest quality VoIP service available to our customers in these cities," added Talley.
