Analysts Expect 47-Bcf Injection to Natural Gas Inventories

Analysts and traders expect government data scheduled for release Thursday to show a smaller-than-average build in natural gas inventories, as a recent heat wave boosted demand for the fuel.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration is expected to report that 47 billion cubic feet of gas were added to storage during the week ended July 19, according to the average prediction of 15 analysts and traders in a Dow Jones Newswires survey.
The EIA is scheduled to release its storage data Thursday at 10:30 a.m. ET.
The survey's median result was also for an injection of 47 billion cubic feet, with a high estimate of a 66-bcf build and a low of a 33-bcf build. The storage estimate comes in above last year's 26-bcf addition to storage for the same week, but is smaller than the five-year average build of 53 bcf.
If the storage estimate is correct, inventories as of July 19 will total 2.792 trillion cubic feet, about 1% below the five-year average and 12% below last year's level for the same week.
