The Federal Reserve Bank of New York Wednesday approved a bid by Morgan Stanley to acquire up to 9.9 percent of the outstanding stock of United Western Bancorp Inc. of Denver and its subsidiary, United Western Bank.

In a statement, the New York Fed said it had “approved the notice by Morgan Stanley ... to retain 9.0 percent and acquire a non-controlling interest up to 9.9 percent of the outstanding common stock of United Western Bancorp” and its subsidiaries.

In a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing Monday, Morgan Stanley said that its hedge-fund subsidiary, FrontPoint Partners, held 952,705 shares of United Western as of Sept. 30, a 3.5 percent stake at the time, the Reuters news service reported.

Also Wednesday, United Western (NASDAQ: UWBK) said it had sold 1,961,325 shares of its common stock at $4 per share, raising about $7.8 million, as a result of the partial exercise of an over-allotment option granted to underwriters of the company’s earlier offering of 20 million shares.

Altogether, including the over-allotment sale, United Western said it realized $81.5 million after deducting underwriting discounts and commissions.

Sandler O’Neill + Partners LP acted as the lead manager for the offering. FBR Capital Markets & Co. and Sterne, Agee & Leach Inc. served as co-managers.

E' altamente SOTTOCAPITALIZZATA e l'emissioni di nuovi titoli non ha risolto la situazione.
Chi vuole rischiare, la quotazione è vicina ai minimi di sempre
Prima di rischiare un'entrata aspetterei la trimestrale che sara' comunicata nella prima decade di novembre. Le idee saranno piu' chiare.
Un importante termine di paragone in attesa potra' essere mercoledi prossimo cosa ci dira' WELLS FARGO.

Mi inserisco nella discussione di questa interessantissima azione.
Sullo yearly si vede bene come la company subisce in modo drammatico e repentino le crisi prettamente finanziarie (1998; 2008), mentre le fasi di iper-leverage sono ad essa favorevoli (conferme anche dal trimestrale).
Ciò lascia intendere che non trattasi di azienda sana, anche e soprattutto a causa dei suoi top assolutamente difformi dagli indici finanziari e dagli equity benchmarks.
La sua pericolosità la si evince sia dalla statica che approssima il book value = tangible book value, collocata a ben oltre 16 $ (REUT-fin. source), sia dalla velocità dei ribassi rispetto al recupero ben più lento (impulsiva ribassista), sia dalla stella cadente della yearly-candle 2007. Il minimo storico poi si colloca proprio quest'anno.

Solo sopra top-2009 si interrompe il deflagrativo bear del titolo. Target del bear 2.8/2.5 in prima battuta e ch.11.
Da evitare per investing (ho fatto la scoperta dello spinone X collie).

Il mensile però è molto significativo in quanto le quotazioni sono sotto le ultime statiche rilevanti, ott.2009 non ha forato la long-red di set.2008 e le due dinamiche discendenti chiave comprimono i corsi sul low di sempre.

Dal punto di vista speculativo pertanto si potrebbe agire long in caso di:
non foratura low 2009
superamento di top ott.2009 (equivalente al cross delle due discendenti)

target e T.P. la fascia statica poco sotto 8, coincidente con la coppia di discendenti dal 2007.

In caso di buy agire con stop: il primo è consigliato alla perdita della discendente sui low, che a ott./nov. si colloca a 420/415; il secondo è ovviamente consigliato sul low set.2009.
